Rumford is an in-home cattery located in beautiful Brookfield, Wisconsin. Brookfield is  just 10 miles west of Milwaukee and about an hours drive from either Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, IL or Madison, WI. We have been showing and breeding Maine Coon Cats since 1991. We strive to breed healthy, large, shaggy coated Maine Coons with a gentle, sweet, loving personality.

Rumford is registered with TICA - The International Cat Association and CFA - Cat Fanciers Association.

We have actively shown in TICA and CFA. We have produced three TICA Great Lakes Regional Winners and three CFA Midwest Regional  Winners.

Rumford has produced many "Titled Cats" in many cat associations and as far away as Japan, Australia, Poland, Switzerland and Finland. If you care to see some of these beautiful show cats please click on our Show Cats link.

Maine Coon males average between 12-18 pounds, and females between 8-12 pounds.  Sometimes ours are larger. The colors that we have produced are brown, red, silver, red/silver, smokes and blue.  We have been concentrating on the classic tabby pattern and have produced cats with very striking patterns. Some of our kittens are with white, which means they have white on their paws, chest and stomach.

Many of our females we produce are torbie or patched which means that they have red color running through their tabby markings.

Our breeding cats are tested annually for Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM). We are pleased that all of our cats in our breeding program are clear and show no evidence of HCM at this time. Screening our Maine Coons via ultrasound for HCM is performed by Dr. Hattie Bortnowski, DVM, Diplomate ACVIM (Internal Medicine). We will continue testing each of our cats yearly to ensure that at the time of testing our breeding cats are free of Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy.

All our cats are DNA Negative for a specific genetic mutation which is known to cause HCM. (The Myosin Binding Protein C 3 (MyBPC 3) gene, also called HCM1) As with human beings with the same disease, there are many different genetic mutations which can cause this disease. In the future, additional mutations may be identified that may be tested as well. If that occurs we will test our breeding cats for that mutation.

Please note: HCM is the most prevalent disease in all breeds of cats. Screening via ultrasound for HCM and DNA testing is currently the recommended method to aid in reducing the incidence of this genetic condition in our cats. Breeders can not guarantee that their cats will not have this condition. However, Rumford Maine Coons can guarantee that we are dedicated to screening our breeding cats in a continued effort to produce healthy and sound Maine Coon cats to the best of our ability.

While our goal is to create outstanding show quality kittens, we will usually have beautiful Pet Quality kittens available. Kittens are allowed to go to their new homes when they have completed their immunization schedule, (Feline Rhinotracheitis-Calici-Panleukopenia) and are well-trained to both the litter pan and scratching post.
Depending on each kitten’s individual development, the average age at which a kitten can go to its new home is twelve weeks. We neither recommend nor encourage the use of the FeLV or FIP vaccine.  Neither vaccine is necessary for indoor-only cats, and the FIP vaccine has not been proven to be preventative enough to warrant its usage.
We sell most of our kittens as pets and very rarely sell breeding cats, and then only to people who have a good deal of knowledge about feline husbandry and are active on the show circuit.

Please take time now to view our Pet Contract/Health Warranty that must be signed before purchasing a kitten from us.
